At the last line (the last drop)… There was a joint meeting of all evangelistic churches of Udmurtia. It was held in The Sport Training Center “Health” on the 28th of November in Izhevsk. The service was dedicated to the World’s Day of fighting AIDS and was called “We are against AIDS”. Not only preachers, elders and congregation of Protestant churches participated in it, but also citizens of Izhevsk. It was wonderful to see lots of young people in attendance for that means that the meeting had attracted many unbelievers.

That day, the Christians got together to express their position to the problem of the rapidly spreading of Aids. This is not only medico- social from the beginning but it also has a spiritual character. AIDS is the complex of problems which are a reflection of human’s sin- drug addiction, homosexuality, premarital sex with many partners and sex outside of marriage. People prayed about all these sinful activities, and for the Lord to destroy the devil’s plan, which is in part to destroy people physically by spreading AIDS. Penetration of HIV has already a catastrophic effect and has not been found to be irreversible. The results of the globe’s research were presented during the service. The research was made within the United Program of the UN on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). There are five million people that are infected with HIV this year alone, which is the highest number for all the history of this disease. According to UNAIDS’ information, the number of people with HIV grows continuously. There were 35 million of people in 2001 and 38 million in 2003 year. Specialists from the International Christian Humanitarian Organization (Christian Aid) believe that the global AIDS’ epidemic can not be stopped with decreasing prices on medicine or different medical and social programs. Representatives of the Christian Aid declare that the situation with HIV/AIDS in certain places of the planet can be called hopeless. Every day, in the world 14 thousand people get infected with HIV and 8 thousand die from AIDS. 23 thousand people in the whole world have already died from it.

Even by the most careful estimation, there could be about 1.4 million people with HIV in the Russian Federation. By 2010, this number would be increased considerably. Our country, where the number of drug addicted through injection, more than three million people have contracted HIV/Aids, and is the most injured country in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In Russia, the distinguishing feature of the epidemic is the age of people with HIV. There are more than 80 % that are younger than 30 years old.

There is the 3rd wave of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Udmurtia. This is in which safety was one of the regards to AIDS before. This statement was announced by Dr/ Leonid Kouselin, Epidemiologist of the Republic Center on the Fight of AIDS. The infection came out of the borders of certain social groups such as the drug addicted, homosexual lifestyle, multiple sex partners and contaminated blood used in transfusion. It has now started spreading within the heterosexual community. At the present, there are 406 families registered with HIV, from which 86 families have both parents infected. Today 27 pregnant women with HIV visited gynecologists. From the beginning of the epidemic in Udmurtia, 99 children were born with HIV.

The access to the treatment for the people with HIV is still low despite all progress. In the developing countries, including Russia, only 7 % of patients have the opportunity to get antiretroviral therapy. People with HIV and AIDS have recently had a protest meeting in Saint Petersburg. Despaired people besieged the building of the town administration. The authorities give less and less money for supporting the life of those people, thus not leaving any hope to prolong their lives. Now people with HIV/AIDS are officially-cynically called “socially unpromising”.

There is not any unpromising and rejection from God. The episcope of the church “The Deal of Faith”, Yuri Degtyar, talked about God’s love for all. This was also said in an open appeal of The Preacher’s Council of Alliance of Evangelistic Churches in Udmurtia, which was presented by the preacher of the church “Philadelphia” of Izhevsk, Sergei Koudrin. Today, it is important for Christians to tell those who have lost hope, that God is available to those for whom the diagnosis “HIV” became the final verdict. It is important to tell those people that they have a chance to receive forgiveness and healing from the Lord, or at least, there is a hope to live the rest of their life in peace with God and that Eternity awaits them where God’s love never ends.

Today, the world is at the final stage. As we see, the world does not have either strength or money, nor desire to fight this deadly virus. Only God’s mercy and love can save the people who are dying and these prayers must come from the Christian Community.
