Seeking the Kingdom of God

Seek first His kingdom — John the Baptizer addressed people with these words. Later Jesus called people to the same thing. On May 17 at the Sunday meeting of the church “Philadelphia” that was the topic Rustam Nasyrov talked about. In Matthew 6:31-33 we read: “So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. This very seeking, this longing for reaching this kingdom should be a priority of our life. It doesn’t mean that we must give up our work, studies and wait for heavenly manna. Still we should work so that our worries will not lead us away from the fellowship with God.

Senior pastor Pavel Ivanovich Zhelnovakov suggested thinking over the crisis and how it affects our spiritual life. On the one hand every crisis reveals our “dead zones”, our weak points and helps us to see what we should work on. Though the current world financial crisis is successfully used by satan to suit his own aims. Because of this crisis or, to be more exact, all this chatting about it people get an impression of instability and uncertainty. They pay more and more attention to themselves, caring about their incomes and forget about others and first of all about God.

We tend to forget about the truth from John 15:5-6:"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned”. Jesus is our vine. We can do nothing without Him and He cares for us. It’s worth trusting Him — He will certainly give what we ask for.
