'It is more blessed to give than to receive”. These words of Christ became the topic of Yuri Baburin’s sermon at the Sunday meeting of the church “Philadelphia” on September 6. These words run contrary to the calling of the world: “Get everything you want from life”. The world’s rules are aimed at getting pleasure and satisfaction, but the world is God-centered. The world was created by God, and it means that the true power is in His commandments — the commandments of love declared by Jesus Christ. The Lord gave Himself to us, His own life for our salvation. He is in this world implicitl and we can become His hands and legs, following His example.
Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov decided to talk about wealth once again. In the Bible many verses are about this topic. Many people stumble over this thing, because they think that wealth is a fault. Still the Scriptures help us to form the right attitude to it. In Deuteronomy 8:18 God says to the Hebrews that He gives the ability to produce wealth. Money don’t fall from nowhere, we earn it. First of all wealth is one of God’s promises. Secondly through giving wealth God sometimes shows His special blessing. King Solomon’s life may be an example of this. He asked for wisdom and God gave wealth as well. In 1 Timothy 6:17 it is said that wealth is given for our enjoyment. We should remember Christ’s words: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's”. It helps us to realize that God has His share in our finance and it is blessed by Him. Man makes a choice to obey God’s system “give and get” or the system of this world “buy and sell”.
At the meeting there was a short movie about church building construction. At the moment many things have been made. To finish the construction and to buy the needed equipment the church needs 17 million roubles. Moreover the church prayed for the people preparing for the baptizing.
