On April 16 a festive Easter service was held in “Philadelphia” church in Izhevsk. Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov greeted the church and blessed it to have special experience in God’s presence and His answers that day.

The service was filled with various kinds of worship: songs, dances, poems.

On that day the church heard testimonies of people whose lives were once changed by Jesus, who gave them hope, forgiveness and the meaning of life. In the beginning of the sermon pastor Pavel reminded of the story of this festival, as the Passover was first celebrated by the Jews in Egypt (Exodus 12:11-13). For the Jews the Passover had a life-changing meaning – they were set free. And what is Passover for us, and what is the Cross that Jesus had to die on? “For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us” – as it is said in the Bible (1 Corinthians 5-7 KJV). Jesus Christ became our redemption and atonement. The main reason that made Jesus come to earth is love for people and understanding that there is now other way that can set people free from sin and death.

Pastor paid attention that a very important part of Easter is restoring of relationships. Our Lord wants to have close relationships with us, that is why He went on the cross.

We also need to restore our relationships with our neighbors. Recalling the parable of the prodigal son, pastor encouraged the church to look at our neighbors with the eyes of mercy, just as the father looked at his prodigal son, so that this Easter could become restoring of relationships with God and people.
