On 9 April in church “Philadelphia”, Izhevsk, at the morning church service the Oborins shared their joy with others when their new-born baby was blessed by the church. Apart from that, Elena Nikulina was congratulated on her anniversary and Maria Bushmeleva and Marina Eltsova – on their birthdays. We congratulate them on these wonderful events sharing their joy.

At the second church meeting pastor Oleg Malykh preached. He told on God’s calling to each of us: He wants to have a close relationship with us (Revelation 3:20). The question is where we can have this fellowship with Him. In the Book of Isaiah God says that the only place like that is our heart (Isaiah 66:1-2). However He also says that the condition for that is the purity of our heart and the fulfillment of His commandments (John 14:15, 21, 23). When we love we are ready to prove it with our actions, otherwise this is empty words. It can be applied in relationships with God as well – love is assessed by our readiness to sacrifice our time and comfort for the fellowship with Him, the amount of efforts we do for communication with Him. The week before Easter is the time when we can sacrifice something to be closer to Christ on the eve of such a great holiday.

Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov suggested thinking about what kind of faith should be in our life in order not to be vain (1 Corinthians 15:1-2) The Apostle Juda calls believers to contend for the faith which means to defend – even till death – the faith  that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people (Jude 1:3). This faith was given by Christ Himself because He is the pioneer and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:2). This is not just faith that a certain God exists as some may think. The New Testament gives the answer about the type of faith that is true:
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

This verse states clearly that people come to God which is impossible unless they believe in His existence. It means that we should not just believe that there is God but rather who He is, what He is like. This demands the knowledge about His character, views, what He thinks of us and so on. How can we learn all this if we do not long for knowing it? This is the reason why the Scripture says that God rewards only those who seek Him. This reward is that God gives salvation and change the life and destiny of the person who seeks Him. The pastor took the example of Hebrews from the Old Testament. They believed in God’s existence and knew how they should serve Him but they did not know who He was, so when God came in flesh they did not understand that and crucified Him. This is relevant today: a person may believe in God, pray and give offerings but in reality they may be ignorant who He is and as a consequence not to have salvation in Jesus Christ (Acts 10:1-6). Today devil does all to make faith just a cultural heritage, some remnant of old traditions – everything in order to stop people from searching true God. The task every believer has today is to know the One they believe in, examining their faith with the purpose of detecting futility and pass their faith once given to God’s people to others.
