God’s answer for the heavy burdened and weary

The summer has ended, and it means that the new school year is coming for schoolchildren, students, professors and teachers. The church prayed for them on September 3 at Sunday services in “Philadelphia” church in Izhevsk.

Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov offered to remember Christ's words, which resonate more or less with every heart: «Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Mathew 11:28). The Lord put in every person the need to search for Him but the world, which lies in the darkness, tries to choke that call or to present God in a wrong way. Pharisees acted the same way and Jesus said about them: “ They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them” (Mathew 23:4). People become “weary and heavy burdened” when they are loaded with something God didn’t ask them to do or when they have a perverted image or wrong understanding of God's words. Unfortunately, the history of humanity is full of tragic events that were a result of wrong understanding of God’s will.

How can we approach God to get His peace? What do we have to know and understand for that? The pastor offered to think about those questions. First of all, we need to acknowledge that Jesus is God, that has all the resources, and He is the only one who can give peace and true value of life. Second, we need to acknowledge that we have been running from God, this means we should repent of the fact that we have been trying to build our lives by our rules. Peace, that Jesus is talking about, is first of all about God giving to a person peace to search for Him and build relationship with Him and to learn from Him how to be gentle and humble in heart. What does Jesus’s phrase, that having learnt from Him we will find rest our souls, mean? In the beginning God gives His peace as a present and if we learn from Him then we will find peace that spreads through our minds, hearts and it will even become part of our characters. This is the kind of state of mind, which can be impossible to put a person out of, by unfair treatment, for instance. The Lord says that we should remain in Him, as He also remains in us (John 15:4). The pastor encouraged the church with these words: no matter how hard our path is, we are going through it with the Lord and He does not leave us alone.
