Konstantin Gogolev preached on September 24 at the Sunday service in Philadelphia church in Izhevsk. The topic for his sermon was Christ’s lordship. What sounds easier: “give your sins to God” or “ask Christ to become the Lord of your life”? It seems like the essence of repentance is in the former, but the Bible insists on the latter. The Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Romans says that for salvation one has to proclaim Jesus as the Lord (Romans 10:9).

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”— Jesus asked Jews (Luke 6:46). He was always searching for sincere followers who would follow Him in practice and not only advise with Him, ask questions or admire Him. To all the latter ones Jesus will once say «I never knew you» (Mathew 7:21—23).

Many people remember disciple Thomas as «the doubting one». However, we should remember a powerful proclamation, which he says, when he was assured that Jesus was indeed in front of him: “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Jesus is expecting such faith even when people don’t see or hear Him.

Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov spoke about communion. What is communion? How do we explain it to ourselves? Do we see it as God’s command or as a common church tradition?

The aim of communion is to remember Christ’s sacrifice (1st Corinthians 11:23—26). As it is shared by a group of people, it is meant to unify them and to intensify in their minds the principle of Christian unity. Communion calls us to a meaningful and hopeful life and being ready for a new day. It helps us to test our hearts and to review ourselves before the holy sacrament of communion.

At the afternoon service the congregation blessed Nikita and Daria Sozykins and their newborn son Simeon. We congratulate happy parents and their family and friends!
