2017. Wake up, sleeper!

On Sunday February 26 in “Philadelphia” church in Izhevsk on the morning service the congregation blessed new born babies of Ivan and Svetlana Sutyagins and Pavel and Yulia Safronovs.

On the afternoon service the first sermon was preached by the minister of “Faith Alphabet” Konstantin Proleev who talked about how church should be and how it should not be, in order to become an answer to searches of this world and to be that very Church which the gates of Hadeswill will not overcome (Mathew 16:18). Modern church must present that image which is shown in the Bible, and this guarantees that people who come will find God here.

Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov built his sermon on a well-known parable of Jesus Christ about weeds and the wheat. While people were sleeping, the enemy came to the field and sowed weeds among the wheat. The field in the parable symbolizes the whole world, many spheres of our life: state, society, family, job and so on. The devil will be able to enter those spheres with his evil schemes if believers are asleep.

The pastor talked about what he meant by “being asleep” in the second part of his sermon. First, people are asleep when they do not realize the importance of time in which they live and if they do not value it they miss their God-given opportunities (Ephesians 5:14-16). Second, being asleep can mean lack of understanding of events that may come to a person’s life, and although God warns about them, a person has no time to prepare for them (Mark 14:33-41). Third, being asleep can mean spiritual laziness: sometimes people see no harm in a chance of relaxing a bit – in result, they find that their faith is shaking (Proverbs 24:30-34). Our mind can also be asleep if we do not control our thoughts and do not discipline them (Luke 12:35). Besides that, a person may be asleep in the spheres of choosing their surroundings, friends, and even choosing a spouse, thinking that it will not influence their faith (1st Corinthians 15:33-34). In addition, a believer may be asleep in regards to their future in eternity, which depends directly on one’s faith. Therefore, Christians should be awake watching their field not to let the enemy sow weeds among good seeds.

On March 10 at 18:00, all lovers of the written word and painting are invited to poetry event of Elena Merzlyakova called “March Sonnets”. Also it was announced on the church service that on May 7-9, 2017 the annual all-Russia conference of the RCCEF will take place in Moscow. Pastors, leaders, ministers and all who want are invited there.
