On March 18 in “Philadelphia” church, Izhevsk, the senior pastor of the church in Pervouralsk Nikolaj Sudakov preached. He spoke on the topic of following Christ. The preacher took the story about Jesus entering Jerusalem where people first cried “Hosanna” and a few days later – “Crucify” (John 12:12-18; 19:14-15). Our behavior may be as changeable as theirs: we can be happy about God’s miracles but when the Lord calls us to serious life changes, we refuse. Meanwhile if we started the path of walking with Christ, we should be ready to give up a customary lifestyle (John 12:24-26). Turning to the Biblical story we see that the people did not come just to praise Christ but also to look at Lazarus who had risen from the dead (John 12:9). Here we can learn another lesson: we should come to church only for Christ’s sake; he must be our only ”magnet”. At the end of the sermon the preacher pointed out: faith will be tested, so in difficult periods it is very important to go to God, not into this world, because it is much easier to finish any race with the Lord.

Pastor Aleksej Obukhov continued the church service talking about the law of seedtime and harvest (Genesis 8:22). He paid a special attention to the persistence of seedtime. Sometimes we cannot start doing something and we wait for God to do it instead of us or, on the contrary, we do everything right away. Here persistence is crucial – everyday work, such as working out in the gym. We can learn to be persistent from the apostolic church. In Acts 2:42 we read that “they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer”. These are the things we should be persistent about so that they could be triumphant in our life (1 Corinthians 15:58).
